What is known is that by 1128 when, Bernard of Clairvaux wrote the Order’s rules, the group was gaining power and wealth at an exponential rate. This meteoric rise to glory and wealth eventually created one of the most powerful non-governmental organizations the world has ever seen. The Templars eventually paid the ultimate price for their might. In 1307, the Order was brought up on charges of heresy and eventually were disbanded by the Catholic Church. Their history has made them perfect candidates for all sorts
of crypto-historical claims. These
claims even include that the Templars were, and some say still are, the
guardians of the Grail.
